NSW Gun Permits Averaged 101 Days to Approve in July
The NSW Firearms Registry processed 1,678 permits to acquire in July 2026 at an average of 101 days, according to registry data reported by Sporting Shooter, which says shooters and dealers now report waits of about six months. Registered firearms in the state fell to 1,151,716 from 1,159,879 in June, even as licence holders rose to 265,783. The joint NSW and federal buyback begins Nov. 2 under a law that, per The Guardian, caps recreational licences at four firearms and bans straight-pull and lever-release rifles for recreational hunters. The registry figures are from July, and the six-month wait is what dealers and shooters report.
