GSM Outdoors Lines Up $100 Million More Debt to Buy Brands

GSM Outdoors plans a $100 million incremental term loan to buy more brands on top of its $775 million term loan, and Moody's affirmed its B3 rating with leverage rising to about 6.2 times, SGB Media reported Oct. 27. Platinum Equity bought GSM for $1.66 billion in September 2024 and has since added Roboworm, K&E, Northland and Smith's, so borrowing to buy is the operating model, not a detour. The same Moody's note lists tariffs and import sourcing among GSM's weaknesses, which means the roll-up is borrowing against a trade policy it does not control.
