ATF Chief Counsel Robert Leider, Who Ran the Rule Rollback, Steps Down
ATF chief counsel Robert Leider, who ran the Justice Department's April rollback of dozens of gun rules, is stepping down and goes on leave Monday, CBS News reported. The rollback's most commercial piece, repealing the rule that widened who needs a dealer license, now loses the lawyer who was carrying it inside the agency. By CBS's account Leider was willing to disagree with his own department's leadership, and without that kind of senior push, an industry-friendly rewrite can stall just as easily as a hostile one.
