Apex and 24.7 Hunt Co-Brand Cold Front Steel Waterfowl Loads

Apex Ammunition and the hunting media brand 24.7 Hunt introduced the Cold Front Waterfowl series of 12- and 20-gauge steel shotshells on Oct. 30, Shotgun Life reported, using Apex's graphite-coated, zinc-plated steel shot and its Limited Bore Contact wad. According to the release Shotgun Life ran, the 12-gauge 3-inch, 1-1/4-ounce load in No. 2 and No. 4 shot runs 1,450 fps at $31.99 a 25-round box, and the 20-gauge 3-inch, 1-ounce load runs 1,300 fps at $29.99. That puts a co-branded steel load at about $1.28 a round, against the $2.40 a round Outdoor Life found Oct. 22 for Federal's Premium Hevi Bismuth, in a season when makers have pulled back on bismuth and tungsten. The release does not say how the loads will reach dealers.
